there is truly no better time to start making better decisions for the products in you home than once you have a baby! so, if that’s why you’re here, I applaud you for wanting to make aware decisions! i’m going to keep this short and to the point. most of these are budget-friendly, too. but for some things, I have really found that investment is worth it when it’s quality. obviously, to each their own, but I’m gonna share what we’ve been using and loving!
for the ongoing quest of finding brands that are safe for your family, download the Yuka app or the EWG SkinDeep Database! It will take a lot of stress out of making better choices for your fam.
these diapers are non-toxic and the sameeee price as other diapers, if not, definitely cheaper! Pampers are $.26 per diaper, and these are $.16, just sayinggg. they work amazing, too! I have zero complaints. they’re free of chroline, bleach, fragrance, lotion, parabeans, anddd phthalates. talk about a win-win situation. super affordable andd peace of mind.
these are greattt. really, anything Honest does is great (but some of their stuff is more expensive than others). Their wipes are non-tox and are maybe a few dollars more than the conventional brands. nothing noticeable in price, but without the sketchy ingredients I can’t pronounce. We also love their diaper cream!
there is a whole line of oils for kids. did you know that?! they’re pre-diluted for them to use, too! oils for: sleep, tummy, skin, focus, and sniffles. we use the tummy one ALL the time. below is the reference i use for dilution, specifically for >1yo. after that, i just use them regularly in the kids line ones, and use this list to reference for regular oils!
newborn – 6 months: 1 drop of oil to 30 drops of carrier oil
6 months – 2 years old: 1 drop of oil to 10 drops of carrier oil
here’s the perfect bundle if you’re wanting to get some oils for your kiddos. Be sure to add Rose Ointment, too. It’s a lifesaver for dry baby skin!
PP can be SO much, all at once! I have a whole highlight on how I prepped for birth + PP if you’re feeling overwhelmed. To keep it simple, here are some of the things that helped me in those last few weeks, and first few weeks of momhood.
Cleraderm: for spraying down there the last month of pregnancy. It is so good for prepping that area, and is amazinggg for healing after-birth, too.
Ningxia: the antioxidant drink of your dreams. it’s super fruity, and FULL of so many essential nutrients. I drink this everyday already, but especially during pregnancy and post-partum. it is essential for my days, and i swear helped my energy and brain fog SO much. nutrition is SO important post-partum, too. here’s more about it!
Joy Oil Blend: it has jasmine and other oils that are SO helpful for hormone balancing. People also looove to use Progessence Plus in the PP stage to get your hormones out of whack! I use both daillyyyy.
Rose Ointment: it’s not just good for babies, but also dry skin, chapped lips, and chapped nipples. breastfeeding can be intense! i’m always loaded and ready to reach for it.
CBD rub: when i was pregnant, I listened to this podcast episode of Birth Kweens about CBD and was sooo shocked at all the great information about using it while pregnant, and while breastfeeding! I was *SO* happy, too, because CBD rub is my favoriteeee thing for my neck and back. i have a jar in our living room, bedroom, and even a mini jar in my purse hahah.
there are soo many brands of formula to choose from nowadays, and it can be super overwhelming to know what’s best. breastfeeding lasted ~2 months due to some health issues, so I have done my fair share of trying multiple. At the end of the day, choosing one with Europe’s standards is what made me, personally, more comfortable, which is why we’ve been using Serenity for months. It’s a bit more of an investment than the brand I was getting at the grocery store, but the quality is unmatched.
TLDR: It takes years, and millions of dollars, to get formula FDA approved, even if their ingredients are proven through and through as pure. It’s super frustrating, and has resulted in a formula monopoly (ex. the formula shortage). That’s why it’s called Toddler Milk (rather than baby formula), but we’ve been using their formula since he was about 3 months, so we loveee it. their formula is free from: soy, industrial seed oil, corn & rice syrup, gluten, GMOs, grains, synthetic folic acid, etc.
We do the 21 oz 6 pack cans on their subscription, which comes out to $34.50 a can. It’s not *that* much more than the previous brand we had, actually.
okay, Lovevery is definitely a crowd favorite in the parent world — with good reason. they are the only toys we buy for shepard, and are based on where he is developmentally for his age. we LOVE everything they send us, and they always accompany their toys with a book of what each toy is for and what they learn from it. we budget a lot of things, and this is definitely on the priority list for us!
I have never heard of gripe water before Shep was born, but boyyy is it a gamechanger. It helps with upset stomachs and hiccups, and works really fast! Shep lovesss it. here’s a clean brand for ya, too. we use it almost daily alongside our medicine paci for the colicky moments.
